Who is Instil Physio for????

Updated: Oct 16, 2021

Deciding if its appropriate to seek treatment for discomfort or dysfunction in your body can be tricky. A lot of people are under the impression that they have to have a specific injury to receive treatment. Also, sometimes clinics or clinicians have specialities, so knowing which clinic or therapist is right for you can be confusing!

At Instil Physio we accept everyone who is willing to make a change. “You cannot become healthy in the environment you became ill in”,(Dr. Perry Nickelston, Chiropractor). I think this idea applies to illness as well as our physical wellbeing. When we become injured or find ourselves in pain, our bodies are trying to communicate that a change needs to be made. A simple example is, neck and shoulder discomfort when you sit at your computer for 4 hours without a break. Likely, your body is trying to set off an alarm that you need to get up and move around or stretch. A more complex example could be pain in your knee when you run, your body might be trying to tell you that there is an imbalance in the way your leg/hip muscles are functioning.

As a physiotherapy clinic we are focused on dysfunction in the physical body, but we also recognize that physical health can be affected by mental, emotional, dietary, spiritual and environmental factors. Regardless of the cause, I think its important to recognize that discomfort is the body asking for something to change. Once we do that, together we can work to figure out what change it is asking for.

Do I have to be an athlete to book an appointment at Instil Physio?

No, it doesn't matter what level of physical activity you are at. Some of our therapists have a special interest in working with athletes, as well as pre and postnatal clients returning to fitness. What is important to us is that you are coming because you want to improve your physical health in some way.

Do I have to be injured to book an appointment?

No! At Instil Physio we want to encourage a proactive and preventative approach to treatment. Commonly people seek treatment after an injury, or once an area is so painful they cannot ignore it anymore. We believe there is great value in having an awareness of your body at all times. Identifying areas for improvement of stability, mobility, or dysfunction that is already present without pain can help you avoid issues later.
